Arkhangelsk, Russia

On the 4th of September 2017 within the regional seminar “Perspectives of development of NGOs sector in Arkhangelsk region” there was held an international section about the international project “Russian and Nordic NGOs building bridges” (“BRIDGES”) in Arkhangelsk, Pskov regions and Nordic countries. The leader of the section was Arkhangelsk Centre of social technologies “Garant”.

Totally over 40 regional NGOs participated in the seminar from Arkhangelsk, Novodvinsk, Severodvinsk, Ustyanskyi, Pinezhskyi and other municipalities of Arkhangelsk region.

The objectives of the international cooperation which Arkhangelsk Centre of social technologies “Garant” identifies for NGOs in the North-west of Russia is to strengthen contacts with Nordic organizations; organize joint activities and implement joint initiatives and projects. During the last years this cooperation has decreased a lot and the purpose of the joint project “BRIDGES” is to restart cooperation and provide conditions for NGOs match-making.

Director of Centre “Garant” Marina Mikhaylova made a presentation of the international project; talked about the cooperation website; possibilities for NGOs to receive consultations and support on preparation of international projects; international conference planned for May 2018.

Since the seminar was also devoted to the new approaches in NGOs’ work – rendering services to population, Garant pointed out importance of learning experience of foreign NGOs in work with population and receiving support from authorities for rendering services.

Another issue for discussion was raising funds for NGOs’ projects and services. Russian President’s grant competition gives a chance to many NGOs to receive funding for implementation of the projects. As to international cooperation it was mentioned that mainly foreign organizations support currently such initiatives.
