Planet of kindness – the partnership of three NGOs of Gatchina to help people in rural areas
On October, 2 2020 at 12 p.m. (Moscow time)/at 11.00 p.m. (Central European Time) Lyubov Rzheusskaya, the director of NGO “Planet of Kindness” (www.planeta-dobra.org), will tell about the activities of Siversky autonomous non-profit organisation for social programs development “Planet of Kindness”.
The organization was founded in 2013 in one of the settlements of Gatchina district and over these years it has implemented more than 20 social projects that improve the quality of life of the elderly and people with disabilities. “Active longevity”, “Social support”, “Caring neighbour” are among them.
There is an ongoing program for the elderly – “University of the Third Age” – in which the elderly are involved in educational and leisure activities, and are provided with support for their initiatives on the patriotic education of the youth.
“The uniqueness of the organization lies in the creation of a partner triad, which, in addition to Planet of Kindness, included two more organisations – the Council of Rural Settlements and the Council of Veterans of Gatchina District”, Lyubov Rzheusskaya said. This allowed enhancing and strengthening resources, giving attention and care to veterans in the most remote places of Gatchina district, creating a system of notification when assistance is needed and developing an algorithm of its provision. The pooling of forces made it possible to start implementing their own programs on a contractual basis under Russian Federal Law 44. More than 100 elderly people received social services under these programs, including buying and delivering food and medicine, house cleaning, cooking, monitoring of medication taking, walks and hygiene services.
Services for the elderly and people with disabilities were provided by volunteers, since there is no system of social services in small settlements of Gatchina district. In practice, there was a division of functions – the Planet of Kindness organization took over the functions of fundraising, office work, reporting and general control over the implementation of programs, and the Council of Rural Settlements and the Council of Veterans were responsible for the organisation of work with the elderly and people with disabilities. Such partnership of NGOs made it possible to improve the social condition for elderly people who are in need of social protection.
