Initiative for the Disabled Welfare Association

This is to introduce to you the Initiative for the Disabled Welfare Association (IDWA) which is a membership society registered under CAP 108 of the Laws of Kenya,mandated to address the issues of the disabled and their families with the aim of improving their livelihoods. This is a non profit, non political and non religious non profit making organisation supporting the disabled poor. Disabled people comprise of over 3 million population in Kenya with over 20 million dependents which requires concerted efforts from the government, stakeholders, multilateral agencies and the community as a whole to improve their welfare sustainably. As a society, we are engaged in offering direct and indirect interventions in an effort to support them. These people need social and economic other than technical support to gain skills which can enable them to initiate income generating projects.We need support at the secretariat located in Nairobi-Kenya and resources to strengthen our branch networks to enable us reach the vulnerable poor living with disability in our communities. The society do categorize our needs and offer resourceful support be it in education, technical training, agriculture and general home support in form of equipment and other essential needs. Society is run by the National Governing Council (NGC) which is the apex body in decision making, the Board of Governors (BOG) that implements the projects/programmes with the technical and administrative departments of the society. Currently, we need to establish a programme for post COVID 19 project for the disabled. Regional Public Organization of Social Projects in the Sphere of Population's Well-being Stellit (NGO “Stellit”) was founded in 2002 in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. We are conducting activities in the field of addictive and sexual behaviour, prevention of violence and sexual exploitation of children, trafficking, the spread of HIV and STIs. NGO Stellit combines the development and implementation of evidence-based public health and social interventions and academic research projects. Stellit’s staff (12 people) are specialists trained in the Psychology, Sociology and Public Health. Four staff members have a PhD (Psychology or Sociology). NGO “Stellit” is a member of ECPAT International.

MTU Jazzon

The Youth Club MTU JazzOn is an international youth organization that believes that youth work is based on equal treatment, tolerance and partnership approach. Our youth work is performed for and with young people, involving them in decision-doings of the conditions for the acquisition of knowledge and skills based on the needs and interests of young people. Our organization is well known in Estonia for organizing international summer workshops for the youth in rural areas. We combine non-formal education with cultural activities, such as social theater, folk music, dancing, storytelling and other performances, games, yoga activities (Acro yoga, Funk yoga), meditation and mindfulness. Our main goal is to in cooperate with other similar organizations all around EU, Scandinavian countries and neighboring countries, in order to together gain and share experiences for further development. Youth exchanges and training courses form a big part of our identity, since we know from first hand experience how important it is to broaden young people's horizon and encourage them to understand the very different world around them. In our activities, we often focus on bringing non-formal education to youth in rural areas, encourage entrepreneurship, ecological lifestyle and environmental protection among them and promote tolerance and understanding towards new and sometimes foreign ways and ideas. As an organization active in a rural area, we fight against social exclusion among local youth. To promote community integration through leisure and recreational activities, we engage local people in many low-cost activities that are fun, relaxing, and may provide opportunities to meet new people. Such activities include practicing yoga, organizing theater plays, a book group, different training courses, biking, playing sports or a musical instrument, painting, going on nature walks, etc. We have many successful projects all over Europe behind us that have given us the experience and knowledge that we now want to share with others. We are creative, brave, wanting to learn and willing to teach, and all the time searching innovative methods and tools.

Estonian Wildlife Center was founded 5.08.2017 Estonian Wildlife Center operates as an umbrella organization for the network of people helping wild animals, organizes information exchange, represents a common interest, concludes contracts and coordinates cooperation with other organizations and authorities. It is the largest and best known wildlife assistance organization in Estonia. Thousands of people in need come to us every year and we have a nationwide network of shelter homes. Our mission is to help wild animals that are disturbed by human activity in the urban environment or in the wild (rescuing, curing, rehabilitating, etc.) and releasing them the natural environment. We rely on scientific knowledge, veterinarians and experts to assist wild animals in need or injured. We organize trainings and seminars, hold lectures and trainings for children and educational institutions. We initiate / commission studies and analyzes. We collect data on the location of wild animals, causes of injuries, diseases, treatments, etc., and participate in relevant research programs. Ponimanie

Ponimanie is professional and volunteer non-governmental organization set up in Belarus, and working in realm of Children's Human Rights, Prevention and Response to Child Abuse and Neglect since 2000. It was registered by the Ministry of Justice, and re-registered in 2006, reg. #01407 dated of April 06, 2006. Ponimanie is national leader in Prevention and Response to Child Abuse and Neglect, visible on Global level, and making impact with its innovations in Eastern European Region, the Pacific, and worldwide during the last 18 years. Ponimanie is developing the United Child Protection Model, recognized with ISPCAN Multidisciplinary Team Award in 2014. Ponimanie possesses great experience in advocacy, policy-making, training for professionals, and direct service delivery, summarized in 24 books, and 3 toolkits in 2003-2018. It holds and develops 7/24 toll-free Child Helpline Belarus, network of 21 CAC, Treatment Service for abused children, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children – Belarus. Ponimanie's action is going from the bottom of Direct Service Delivery to the top of Policy Making, and International Advocacy in favor of children’s rights and protection of child victims and witnesses of violence, and other vulnerable groups of children. INGO "Ponimanie" participated at some public-private consultative bodies including the Commission on Juvenile Affairs under the Council of Ministers, allowing to advocate in the Government to take decisions in favor of Children’s Rights and Protection.  INGO “Ponimanie” is National Partner of International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN) in Belarus since 2006, UNICEF’s implementing partner in 2001-2006, a member of Child Rights Connect (former NGO Group for Children’s Rights), Child Rights Information Network (CRIN), member of Child Helpline International (CHI), member of Global Missing Children Networking (GMCN), implementing partner of International Organization for Migration (IOM) in prevention of trafficking in children (2010-12), participant of development of General Comment-13 (GC-13) to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, founding co-author of the first in national history Alternative Report following to the 3-4th Belarus State Party Periodical Report to UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, on the implementation of the Article 19 of UN CRC (2010-11). Current Chairman of Ponimanie Prof., Dr. Vladimir Yanchuk is bright figure on international psychological arena, ex-member of National Commission on Children's Rights, extremely influential person in Children's Rights on national level, and within international scientific and expert community, author of the Concept of the First Natonal Study of Child Abuse in Belarus (2006-08), recognized with famous State Decoration - Francis Skaryna Medal. We are looking for foreign and international support to our activity due to 1) poor and tough international donor market for Human Rights/Children's Rights available for Belarus; 2) absence of local culture of philanthropy and financial participation in solution of societal challenges in Belarus both in people and business; 3) active counteraction of excessive intermediaries (local UN and some civic/expert/human rights defenders groups) protecting their unjust control over international donor support to national civil society of Belarus. We become weaker in 2019 because of dirty competition on international donor market, from the side of local UN agencies, and we need for building new partnerships aiming for better outcomes for children in Belarus, and wider in Baltic Region.

Hringsjá vocational and educational center

Hringsjá was founded in 1987 by the Icelandic Center for people with disabilities (ÖBÍ), then as a Vocational Training center for adults with disabilities. Hringsjá´s function has evolved and grown since then. Hringsjá is now a school for adults who have themselves applied for studies, and also determined their need for an educational and vocational training in a supported and safe environment. The overall objective is empowerment through education and the enhancement of personal development. Students are both men and women, 18 years of age and older with diverse background and story in life. Their common goal at Hringsjá is to enter mainstream work, or enter a “regular” school after they finish their studies at Hringsjá. Statistics show that 70%-80% of those students that have graduated reached that goal, but all say that the quality of their life improved. Students have various backgrounds and have decided to reassess and strengthen their possibilities and position in society. Most students have health problems due to disease, accidents, trauma, psychiatric illness or lifestyle choices. Most have more than one diagnosis. Many have a history of difficulties during their previous school years. Hringsjá is a small school, with approximately 70 students attend the full training program at a time, the full program is 3 semesters. In addition approx. 400 students a year, attend shorter courses and consultation. Most of Hringsjá´s students receive their income from National Social Security, the majority only temporarily while studying at Hringsjá. The training program consists of courses in basic skills such as reading, writing and arithmetic as well as social studies and social skills, but main emphasis is on teaching and training in skills important for office and service work e.g. bookkeeping, Icelandic, English and the use of computers . Special focus is on a variety – and sometimes untraditional teaching methods and approaches. In addition; student´s also receive training in the area of various personal skills, with the guidance of a psychologist and social counsellor. Some students receive special education and/or further diagnosis of their situation, particularly ADD/ADHD or Dyslexia. Among special supports provided is Davis Dyslexia counselling, private coaching and an extensive network and teamwork with a variety of agencies and institutions. Educational and vocational counselling is provided as well as teaching and training in various job-seeking skills. A vocational counsellor gives a follow up guidance. Hringsjá aims at providing a safe, comfortable environment for education, vocational training and personal growth, for adults that have not had many victories in life. Hringsjá is a place where students redefine their skills, interest and self image. Students that graduate from Hringsjá usually speak of finally finishing something, having reached a goal; being winners and succeeding.

Perspektivy

Since 1996, PERSPEKTIVY has provided living conditions for children with severe mental and physical impairments as close as possible to living conditions of children without disabilities, as well as undertakes normalization of surroundings where they live when become adults. We have the assistance program for supporting 75 children with the most severe physical and mental impairments in State Orphanage No. 4 for Disabled in Pavlovsk. Our experts together with volunteers work with our care recipients during the year. They teach children to walk, eat, and drink by themselves, as well as to get dressed and serve themselves. They bring meaning and interesting activities in our guys and girls' lives by organizing games, celebrations, trips, in line with providing additional care, attention, and development. We also support 195 families from Saint-Petersburg by helping them to live life to the full and create future for their children: the Day Care Center for children, the Day Occupation Center for teenagers and young people, and the Guest House in cooperation with experts and volunteers supporting families in crisis situations work under the program.
